GT ULTRA by Guerilla Toss

1. Betty Dreams Of Green Men 03:29 – Funky post punk – it’s 1979 again and that’s a good thing.
2. Can I Get The Real Stuff 02:57 – Nice, if a little slick.  But it is 2017 I guess.
3. Crystal Run 02:57 – Channels some nice old school J-rock.
4. TV Do Tell 01:35 – Ditto all the above – this could go either way.
5. The String Game 03:15 – Talking Heads meets B-52s.
6. Skull Pop 05:01 – Back in J-pop realm ala Capsule or Hazel Nuts Chocolate.
7. Dog In The Mirror 05:03 – Slits meets J-Slits.
8. Dose Rate 04:40 – Slick electronica – give me some distortion!

Divorce by Divorce

1. Cunts In A Circle 03:01 – Like Today Is The Day played on the second stage with Hijo Kaiden.
2. Snob Value 05:22 – 5 minutes of intro for 5 seconds of music.
3. Aids Of Space 04:13 – Angry angsty noise rock.
4. Bill Murray 03:23 – Hammerhead meets PRE.
5. Pencils Giant Pencils 03:28 – Gratingly abrasive guitars in your face.
6. Coat Your Throat 02:29 – The slow ambient one.
7. Stabby (Stabby) Stab 05:37 – The saxophone track!  Favourite so far!
8. Dreglegs 05:13 – If you took all the bands mentioned above and slowed them down they would all sound like Cows.
9. Never Try Anything New At Least Once A Day 07:10 – A seven minute closer needs a big riff but it never arrives.

Musique Exotique #02 MLP by Exotica

1. Presion 01:04 – Woah!  Early BCT type world punk!  Ohlo Seco, Wretched etc
2. No 00:48  – Slight variations on punk rock but the riffs sound like magic
3. Ser Nada 01:34 – The slow one…
4. Is This A Life? 01:02 – Pummeling bass riff and then that guitar sound again!
5. Caminando 01:18 – Is that keyboard!?  Well, made me laugh!
6. Asco 01:00 – Suffers from being the same beat as the previous track – but the chorus!
7. The Hand That Feeds 01:49 – The second slow one….why not go faster rather than slower!?
8. It’s No Revolution 00:57 – Flex Your Head!  Variations on Nic Fit.
9. Mundo Nuevo 02:54 – It’s good that the songs are generally short, otherwise this would grow old quickly.  This is the epic closer….though it’s not that great.

Score: 8

Split with ACxDC by Goolagoon

1. Home Sweet Pineapple 01:12 – intro, surf-core, big riff – what’s not to like!?
2. Doing Time 01:02 – It’s the 80s again – but only for 1 minute and 2 seconds.  Stikky worship!
3. Idiot Box 00:49 – Drummer is excellent.  Vocals range from great to generic.
4. The Bully 00:46 – One of the vocalists sounds like Nick Blinko.  This song is a ripper.
5. Book Attack (Scholastic Deth) 00:57 – That guitar solo is awesome and fantastically out of place.  Love it!

Score: 8

Spend Life by Make More

1. Best End 02:36 – Immediately reminded of something I like – Built To Spill maybe?
2. Dead Hands 02:32 – Is this the first song again?
3. Bare Fangs 02:49 – Slowing down, some vocals.  Superchunk, after they went shit (or as everyone else seems to think, got better!)
4. Mediolanum 02:04 – The goth track.  Still, better than the Cure.
5. Loose Tombs 02:01 – Awesome – guitar starts off like Fried Milk era Tar Babies!
6. Less Deaths 03:14 – Reminds me of some Chinese indie rock that I’ve heard.
7. Future Ruins 03:13 – A nice Mascis blazing guitar riff at max volume would improve this. Do it!
8. Festering Legacy 02:26 – Noting a lack of dynamics sound wise after 8 tracks.  Solid mixtape stuff but maybe will grow like a My Dad is Dead album?
9. Spend Life 03:11 – The slow closer – goes all right.

More Than A Facebook Friend (Cassette Album) by Yuko Yuko

1. Local Girl 02:48 – Heavy synth drums – could be some good J-pop but….maybe not….
2. Wait For The Apocalypse 03:12 – Liking the J-sound and the heavy bass – it’s a bit new wave though.
3. XXX 00:43 – Electro interlude – quite nice
4. Unpleasantly Wet 03:10 – This is weird and I like it, until it got a bit normal and dreary – punk up!
5. Two Boys 02:34 – Jangly synth pop – nice female vocals.
6. I’m Too Cool 02:36 – Dull synth pop – straight female vocals. Chorus picked up a bit.
7. Walbert’s Biking Thru 01:07 – Reminds me of some kind of XTC out-take.
8. Everything’s So Special About Me 02:41 – That drum sounds like a cardboard box.  Too much Duran Duran synth up in yr face.  The tweaky guitar is nice.
9. My Friend 00:46 – Filler track alert.
10. Heterosexual 03:08 – Too digital for my tastes.  I do like the droney noise in the background of this one though.
11. Ur Coming Closer Now 02:11 – These vocals remind me of 1985, the chorus reminds me of wanting to kill the disco kids in 1985.
12. Seventeen And Melting 02:34 – Things are starting to get a little samey, stylistically now.  Is this what Positive Noise sounded like?  Or the Associates maybe?
13. Lil Shawty 01:06 – Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – right!?
14. Sharing Is Giving 03:18 – Bouncy Ween start but doesn’t go anywhere.  I want it to soar!
15. Hurry Up 00:40 – Half an idea.
16. More Than A Facebook Friend 03:38 – This hits a Half Man Half Biscuit stride – but not as fun, obviously.

Score: 6

To rot my soul is smiling by Sei Hexe

1. To rot my soul is smiling (Earth) 02:41 – Slow bass intro – could go anywhere
2. Queen of Swords (Air) 02:07 – Mad screamer – reminds me of Christian Death somewhat.
3. Fervor rescue me (Fire) 02:24 – More gothic influence here – this time a little Sex Gang Children, particularly the drumming.
4. 10 of cups (Water) 03:13 – These folks like their bass intros….
5. Leben ist Hart (Chuck) 01:16 – Woah, this is different – late 70’s post punk style now.  I guess it makes sense as the aforementioned bands kinda developed beyond that sound.
6. Worship me (Cobwebs) 01:42 – Cool intro this time, some nice guitar sound.
7. Earth swallow me (Belfry) 01:08 – Considering the length of the songs they sure take their time with the intros.  Another nice one here.
8. I am the ruler (Nelson) 01:39 – Hmm, this one is a little post rock.  Can only hope for some radical explosion of sound further in.
